WATCH: WHAT IS PROP K?

40,000 El Pasoans signed on to put this piece of community-written legislation on the ballot. Since then, academics have agreed that Prop K would boost GDP, lower electricity rates, cut emissions, and make El Paso a global leader in green economy.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF PROP K?

For the first time, El Paso taxpayers could have a say in job creation, infrastructure decisions, and POWER generation/costS. The Charter Amendment will adopt a comprehensive climate policy with specific goals including

Green Economic Growth

Create jobs that protect our laborers and planet.
Attract investment in El Paso through new funding opportunities.
Protect small businesses from corporate interests.

Reduce the City’s contribution to climate change.

Resource Conservation and Infrastructure Investment

Conserve City water for the people of El Paso.
Prepare the infrastructure for climate disasters.
Invest in a renewable energy future.
Increase access to affordable solar power.
Address pollution in our communities.

Democratic Control over Special Interests

Create a Climate Commission of local residents.
Encourage publicly-owned electricity.
Lead other Texas cities by showing them what is possible.
